What do you look for?

Most people with whom we talk think all personal lines coverages are alike. They think that all homeowners policies provide the same coverages, that they are all written on an all-risk, replacement cost basis, and that one insurance company is as good as the next. As insurance professionals, we are constantly reminded how wrong this is. We see the great differences in companies and their personal insurance product, and in the way they respond to various claim situations. What do you look for?

Be sure your homeowners policy is written on an HO-3 or HO-5 policy form. Many agents try to compete on pricing by selling stripped down policies with forms that are often coded HO-1 or HO-2. Be sure your policy is written on a replacement cost basis for both the house and the contents. It will cost you a little bit more, but it is well worth it in the event of a loss.

Be sure the liability section of your homeowners policy provides a liability limit of at least $300,000. Most policies are written with limits of $100,000 or less, keeping price as the primary concern. At Chappell, Smith & Associates, Inc., proper coverage is our goal for every client. We have proven this can be accomplished while keeping premium costs in line.

Ask your agent what to expect in the event of a claim. Does your insurance company have a reputation for handling claims promptly and fairly? If you sense any hesitation or lack of commitment in the answer you receive, select another company. Does your agent compare your coverages and prices with those of other companies to assure that you are in step with the industry in coverage and price? Computer rating makes this task an easy one for us.

Do you buy low liability limits for automobiles? Auto is the area of greatest exposure for the average person. Most auto accidents involving bodily injury will result in the need for legal Chappell Smith & Asscoiatesrepresentation. This should immediately create an appreciation for high liability limits. Although slightly more expensive, we require our agents to encourage clients to buy a minimum of $300,000 in auto liability coverage. In addition, we suggest a personal umbrella to provide additional coverage for both your homeowners and automobile exposures. If you own a boat, a second home or R.V.s the umbrella will provide additional coverage for those liabilities as well.

AT CHAPPELL, SMITH & ASSOCIATES, INC., YOUR PERSONAL LINES AGENT WILL BECOME A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR PERSONAL ADVISORY TEAM. CALL US TODAY, AND LET US PROVE OUR WORTH.
